I have finally set up the poll to vote on which icon should win the cruellyhandsome</lj>Icontest 2: Power. It was a daunting task. We had 48 entries!!! I'm so proud of everyone's artistic ability. These are beautiful icons. If for some reason your icon isn't here or the poll isn't working right please let me know soon. It was unintentional mistake. There are four questions asking for votes on which icon should win. This due to a 15 option limit on poll questions. You can vote for several icons if you want. Use your discretion. As before there will be about 3 days to vote on this contest and then I'll announce the results. Should I hand out a winner banner like last time or not? Click on the link to see the icons and vote. Beware this is graphically intense.

There were so many I voted for 7 :P

I, for one, always collect and post any pretty award banners that might be awarded. Just out of curiosity are you doing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or just 1st? I actually always liked the icontests that awarded things like Best Text and Coloring etc. However, I've run icontests and know how much trouble they can be so I don't expect you to, just thinking aloud :) Poll worked fine though, just so you know!!

I kept the poll open that way, because it would be hard to vote for just one. There's so many and the quality is terrific. I've always felt the award banners were fun. I only made a first place one last time, as there were only 8 icon entries total. This time there may need to be a first, second, etc. if the voting for several icons works out to be close.

As for other awards I'm open to doing more categories... I'm pretty new to all LJ concepts, including running icon contests, so any suggestions are appreciated. How exactly do you run a contest like that and what are some of the typical categories? cruellyhandsome's next contest could be done like that.

I always get worried over polls. The first few I made crashed in rich text editor mode, so I'm wary of polls in general.

I ran a few Star Wars icontests for a while and I participated in a zillion. I don't enter them very often anymore - not the weekly ones, too much structure - I always have so many things I'm trying to do :) Anyway. At pa_chorus (an Anakin&Padme icontest using different song lyrics each week) we had awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Mod's Choice and "Best Use of Theme" or "Best Use of Text" depending on what the contest was that week. The additional categories were voted separately - so I always chose different ones 'cause I like to award everybody :) Let's see, other categories I've seen are:
Best Coloring
Most Creative
Best Emotion
Best Cropping

Stuff like that. And polls always gave me a headache too (and I think the most entries I ever had was 25). So I feel you!!

Wow you seem to have a ton more experience doing icontests then me. (Wait, everyone has more experience than me. I've been doing this for all of two months.)

I'm definitely going to take some tips from you and ask for you suggestions from time to time. I like the idea of different categories and multiple prizes. I'm curious how many participants you were getting. I think we had only 5 or 6 participants who made a ton of icons for this contest. What's a good about of categories for a small but growing comm like cruellyhandsome?

I was going thru my inbox and realized I never responded - oops!

The most participants I ever had was something like 15, but usually I got only about 5 or 6 too. I had a limit on the number of icons you could submit - I limited it to 3, I've seen 2 and even just 1. I don't like the limit of 1, I think it stunts creativity but 3 or maybe 5 would make your poll more manageable :)

I don't know what the best amount of categories is. Maybe you could ask the community? Would they like more categories or limits on entries or what not?

I'm going to do as you suggest and ask the community what they think would be for the best. I'm definitely for limiting the icon entries to 3-5 or whatever the comm thinks is best. And starting to have 3 or so categories. Maybe more if participation increases.

Lol, kuma you're hilarious. Yeah it took a while. There has to be an easier way to do these things then using the web form like did... because it was rather tedious and I end having to hand code half of it anyway.

Sure, no one wrote anything for the last one. So I think we'll wait a bit. Plus I know nanowrimo is controlling your life right now.

And hopefully the comm will grow as people discover it's here and it's active. And if a Magneto movie comes out... it could become a real popular 'ship.

There were far too many powerful icons (sorry about the pun) too choose from! They all displayed much more competence with icon making than I can manage, especially the terribly impressive, (if slightly sore on the eyes) no. 23, for which I did vote. The others were:
1. With the title of my journal, need you ask why?
23. Dedication. Also, I'm a sucker for shiny flishing animated things.
24. I should hae voted for this one, but I didn't. How odd.
26. The monochrome background, especially with Magneto in white (which is slightly subversive, considering his supposed villain status) made the text stand out really nicely. Eye catching.
29. Magneto's Law: The magnitude of force possessed by an object is proportional to the product of its minions and its aural eloquence, that is Fnet = ma.*
33. Classic. Nec plura his, to quote Virgil.**
34. Subtle! Wonderful especially the chess analogies. (Probably the reason I thought of Charles/Erik when I saw it!)
37. I thought about voting for this one, but it didn't fit into "power" that well. Unless there is some text I can't see, which is entirely possible due to my atrocious eyesight. I did filch it with credit.
47. The irony! Or not, since this is an M/M community and we want to see them together after X3.

* I am soooo sick of Newton's laws, I even managed to make the formula work! (It was going to be P=E2. Can anyone think of other equations the Brotherhood can take over? E=mc2?? :D
* Talk to the sacred twig, 'cause the hag ain't listening.. A nominative neuter plural substantiative adjective governing an adjective, followed by an ablative plural feminine demonstrative pronoun, in an ablative of comparison, whose gender is governed by "verbis" understood as the direct object of "Sibylla fata est" in the preceding sentence.
I had to write all that rubbish in a Latin assessment, just so I could translate it as "Nothing more was said than these things"!!!
